Currently primaries are not held for special elections. In this scenario the 5 Republican candidates received 51% of the vote, but the two Democratic candidates received the most votes (30% and 19%). Since no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, the two top candidates moved into a runoff (D1 and D2) to decide the winner.
